An Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer is a certified professional, knowledgable in product selection, space planning, materials and finishes.
Beginning July 1, 2016, the NKBA will offer a new certification exam that identifies a certified kitchen and bath design expert through a single exam. Candidates for the new Certified Kitchen & Bath Designer (CKBD) will no longer need to sit for both the CKD and CBD exams. This new certification recognizes the importance of staying current, while addressing the concerns of our members regarding the complexity of the certification process. Members of the Certification Task Force, Certification Test Board Committee, and Exam Development Subcommittee worked together to determine the best methods for streamlining the process for NKBA design certifications. This new certification allows NKBA members better access to the NKBA Certification. Candidates will have access to the CKBD exam year-round.
Certified Kitchen Designers (CKD) and Certified Bath Designers (CBD) specialize in the design, planning, and execution of residential kitchens and bathrooms, and prove advanced knowledge of technical and personal communication skills required to succeed as a design specialist.
If you are currently a CKD or a CBD, members who hold the CKD appellation will be able to sit for the bath-only portion of the CKBD exam, and members who hold the CBD appellation will be able to sit for the kitchen-only portion of the CKBD exam. This version of the exam will only be available from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2018.
Certified Kitchen Educators (CDE) and Certified Bathroom Educators (CBE) are college instructors who specialize in teaching residential kitchen and/or bathroom design. They understand the unique qualifications required for kitchen and bathroom design specialization, and they transfer their knowledge to interior design students. A college instructor achieves the CKE or CBE designation by proving experience as an interior design college educator and passing the CKD exam for CKE certification, or the CBD exam for CBE certification.
The Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer is a program which recognizes extraordinary experience and achievements in the kitchen and bath industry. The CMKBD must possess not only both their CKD and CBD certifications, but must have an additional ten (10) years of experience in the industry beyond the date of their first certification. The CMKBD qualifications encourage promotion of consumer and industry awareness, industry leadership, and mentoring new designers.
A Certified Interior Designer (CID) can help you create a commercial or residential environment that is safe, healthy, cost-effective and attractive.
