NKBA, a member focused, non-profit trade association promoting the professionalism of the kitchen and bath industry, has grown into the premier association of designers, remodelers, manufacturers, fabricators, and other industry professionals. As President of the California Capital Chapter, I would like to encourage all of you to take advantage of what NKBA has to offer and join our membership. Not only do we have a great local chapter, we also have the support of NKBA National which is based on the East Coast.

2016 was an amazing year filled with numerous events and many awards. Looking back, one will find monthly chapter meetings, networking events and educational programs, our Annual Golf Tournament, Annual Design Competition and Holiday Awards Dinner and the inaugural Sacramento Regional Design & Build Expo at The Old Sugar Mill with David Garibaldi. This event was a huge success and the funds raised went to Habitat for Humanity to help build a home for the Robinson Family. Many of our Chapter members actually spent an entire day swinging hammers. Proceeds from the Expo also went to providing educational scholarships and continuing education credits for our members and helping our chapter protect their right to practice. This amazing event was awarded NKBA National’s Star Award for Best Chapter Fundraiser.

Stay tuned for information on the 2nd Annual SRDBEvent!! 2017’s event will be focused on promoting and marketing our regional design and build industry, and will be held at the Milagro Centre on May 12th, 2017. We will be presenting a ‘Culinary Experience’ with chef demonstrations, vendor tables, catered gourmet dinner, live and silent auctions with David Sobon Auctions and a live performance by ‘Top Shelf
Classics’ Party and Show Band.

Many of the new and exciting Chapter programs for 2017 can be found on our website. To note a few coming in the following months; ‘Luxury Appliances vs. Luxury Kitchens’, A Student Design Symposium, ‘Induction Cooking in Today’s American Kitchen’, Our ‘Culinary Experience’ and ‘Sustainable Materials for the Bath’!

Also, keep an eye out for our upcoming Annual Design Competition. This competition is an excellent way for designers to showcase their talents and to get recognized professionally. It is also a wonderful marketing tool for establishing credibility with new clients and for building your portfolio. The California Capital Chapter was also awarded NKBA National’s Star Award for Best Chapter Design Competition.

On our home page, you will find our 2017 Design Competition winners and their inspirational projects. In addition to all our local winners, other noteworthy ‘National’ awards go to Elma Gardner, awarded 1st Place in the Large Kitchen category and Best Overall Kitchen, Nar Bustamante, awarded an Honorable Mention in the Medium Kitchen category, Cindy Garten, awarded 2nd place in the Small Bathroom category, and Ashlee Richardson who was chosen as one of the exceptional young professionals to win NKBA’s ’30 under 30’ Award!

It has been a great honor to again serve as your President, working alongside some very talented and hardworking people. I am so very thankful to have such an enthusiastic, and supportive board, dedicated industry partners and active chapter members. Thank you all, who have given your time and talents to NKBA! Your efforts are clearly evident in everything our Chapter does and none of these activities would be possible without all of you. For those of you who would like to volunteer, I encourage you to get involved at whatever level feels comfortable.
